Step 1. Request

We always analyze the request together with the client, keeping in mind several strategic questions, such as:

  • ‘What’s the goal of the production?’,

  • ‘What’s the intended format?’,

  • ‘Are there already clear ideas about the sound and/or music?’,

  • ‘Is there already some kind of audio (that needs to be used)?’,

  • ‘Does the client have any examples?’,

  • ‘Should the sound and/or music also differentiate itself in some way from other existing (musical) sources?’.

We prefer to work in close contact with our client throughout the rest of the creative process. However, if needed, we can also work fast and solo by a certain deadline.

Step 2. Mood boards

We start our creative process with the creation of one or more mood boards.

Central to each mood board is a set word associations in which each word is linked with a ‘possible musical translation’.

Another vital element is a list of photos, videos, music and sounds that capture the mood of the music we envision.

We discuss the final mood boards with the client. This helps us to see whether we are on the right track and to refine our grasp of what is vital with respect to the overall feel, narration, etc. of the music or sounds.

Step 3. Demo-iterations
(feedback and refinement)

Next, we start to write and produce music or sounds.

Depending on the complexity of the request we define different demo stages, during which we again discuss the demos with the client in order to backtrack or refine where necessary.

Step 4. Result

The final sound and music are always shared in dedicated audio files for each of the intended media, with special attention given to the required loudness levels and data compression standards.
